Can a Chevy BB 496ci fit in a 68 Firebird?
I want to know if a BB Chevy 496ci in a 68 Firebird that was originally a 455HO engine (numbers dont match will fit)? I have two options, I can 455HO (Edelbrock heads, Eagle Stroker kit, new camshaft, rocker arms, Edelbrock intake, carb Holley, hydraulic cylinders, bored. 30 on that will probably run me $ 6,000 or buy a Chevy 496ci BB / 480HP / 550TQ crate engine for $ 6,500 already getestet.Auch Dyno when I buy the Chevy crate motor, I need to modify the engine mounts on the Firebird or will there be a direct fit. The 68 and 68 Camaro Firebird are the same F-body type.

the 496 should fit bacisally the same block, the only difference between the pontiac 455 and the chevy 454 is the bolt pattern on the bellhousing and let me know where you can get the 496 dynoed for 6500,i haven’t seen any for under 8500.
It is as close as a direct fit as you will ever see. You will need to change out the frame brackets but they bolt on with 3 bolts each. You will need Chevy motor mounts and a Camaro big block set of headers. Then you will need some straps to strap yourself in when you first stand on it. You will also need a bellhousing or different auto trans as the Chevy and Poncho have different bolt patterns and different flywheels.
If the block is the same than yes because the engine size doesn’t matter because the engine is bored out in the cylinder not expanded in actual size. hope this helps
