The GM 3800 has been good for years. I had one in 90 and now have one in an 04 Impala. 31 mpg hwy, and more power than I have needed. I’m very happy with it.

GM crate 350

Suggest you find a GM dealer who is a Performance Parts dealer. Most of the big Chevy dealers are. Check out the “crate motors” that GM sells. You can buy some serious HP for reasonable $$$. Several years ago I was looking at a 503c.i.d. that the parts mgr said he would sell me for about $3800.

go for a 350 stroked out to a 383 or a crate 427 the go for around 5000 dollars and have around 505 horsepower

350 would be your best bet! i think.

i own a repair shop, and if it were me id buy a new 350 crate engine and one of the performance ones at that the push an easy 355 horse power, and perform really good ,i have installed them before ,and they do ok in,any vehicle you put them in,i put one in a Little nova and it ran exceptionally well ,and the owner was really pleased with it,but that’s what id use, good luck,i hope this help,s.

I would most assuredly buy a 327. I had one in a 67 Pontiac when I was a younger man and it was fast and reliable

depends on what you want, real nice street/ strip motors can be purchased from on-line catelogs such as Summit Racing, street motors with a healthy set of b*lls can be bought as “crate” motors from Chevy dealers or Specialty Racing Shops can build you whatever you want/ are willing to spend to spend!!!!!!

By far a GM crate engine. Everything will bolt right up, and there will be no other problems with the installation. You can purchase some pretty hefty power for six grand, and if it bolts right in without any other problems such as will it wire up, will the fuel system have to be altered, or will it have the torque I need? Don’t Look for problems, look for something that is made for that vehicle, and will cause no questions concerning a warranty. Stick with a crate GM engine, and you will be so glad you did.
You have to ask yourself this; What are you going to do with the car? Are you going to make a daily driver, a drag car, or a Sunday driver that will blow the doors off anything that gets beside you? All of these questions are real important, in order to pick which engine is best. You want power, go with a big block, or a 383 stroker. You want power and economy, go with an LS-1 350, and it will be strong, plus it gets pretty good gas mileage too. A 383 stroker is brute torque, and from red light to red light, not many vehicles on the road can stay with it, but the top end suffers somewhat, as this is not a real high reeving engine like the LS-1 would be. I hope I have been of some help. Good Luck!!!
Part 2
The 428 CJ is a FORD engine. Where in the question did it ask about a ford? How did a FORD answer get voted on for a best answer?? Some people just can’t stand chevy muscle, can they???

I’ll tell you what. I’ll sell you a 454 engine for $4,000.
