Crate Engine?

9

I am looking for my crate engines classic cars. I have a 1967 Chevy Impala 4-door, which currently has a 283 engine. The engine is currently very good, but I would eventually want to have installed a crate engine, if my current motor gives up. I am looking for a blend of performance and efficiency. want to get V8 My friend told me about a 350 small block, because he swears that is the best Chevy engine of all time, but I would have other opinions. I would like to use it on 87 octane, so nothing to mächtig.Wenn one of you have websites for engines, please paste it in your reply so I can take a look.

I agree that a crate 350 is probably the way to go. My only disagreement would be in aiming to set up the new motor to run on 87 octane gas…

Set the new crate motor up to run on premium (91+) octane fuel. You can be more aggressive with the setup (making loads more power for not a lot more money). Paying 20 cents more per gallon for premium fuel will be a drop in the bucket compared to the thousands of dollars it will cost you to buy ANY crate motor, mild or wild, and install it into your Impala.

Well, I’m not sure about the 350ci being the best engine. they’ve ever made. Personally I’d perfer the 327ci engine(or the 5.3L as it’s known in today cars and trucks) over the 350ci.

But, here’s a couple of sites you can check out for GM crate engines.

Good luck!

For the record you have a 41 year old Chevy that will NEVER be a classic car. It might be termed “collectable”. FYI even the venerated ’57 Chevy hasn’t attained “classic” car status yet.

Carcraft.com or just go to any auto parts store you can think of.

I have used a few crate motors my self and the best bang for your buck is the GM 330 HP 350 they offer it only needs an intake and carb the best efficient combo for that engine is the edelbrock performer RPM intake and the barrygrant speed demon 550CFM carb… Goog luck….

If you change engines the value of your 67 will drop because the serial numbers that were assigned to that vehicle won’t match. You may want to consider rebuilding your 283 it’s an excellent engine.

I have a 350 Chev crate engine in my 40 Merc . 330 hp. 4 barrel. Nothing exotic. I’ve always had cars with small block Fords, Ho Po289′s, 4 barrel 302′s, Fi 302, Boss 302s. I still love Fords but the 350 Chev is one hell of an engine. It runs like a scalded cat. Is stone dependeble and cheap to hop up more.
I think mine came from Chevy. Look in the back of Street Rodder Magazine. There’s LOTS of crate engines in there.
Chevy and Ford. MoPars too. From 2500.00 to 15000.00. What ever you can afford and want.
