How can I tell if my Chevy engine is a 305 or a 350?
I have a 67 Chevy truck I buy a non-original Chevy small-block engine and not sure what it is exactly. How can I identify physically what it is?

physically all the chevy small blocks (262, 265, 267, 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350, 400) looks 98% the same.
Only real way to tell is get the sufix code and casting # off the block and look it up.
Sufix code is on front pass side of engine, in front of head on machined pad. #’s are stamped into pad. Clean grease/dirt off with carb cleaner, wd-40, etc and a rag before looking
Casting # is on rear driver side of block, on flange that transmission bolts to. #’s are raised so alittle easier to see, but will still need to clean it good.
Once you have the #’s go to http://www.mortec.com to look them up and see what you have
message me at playaforlife313@yahoo.com tell me wat year it is and tell me what model and year it is and i can tell u
The engine ID is on the front of the block on the pad ( as the other guy said) also if the brackets have not been switched 9 out of 10 305s alternators are on the driver’s side and 350s are on the passenger’s side.
the bore for s 350 is 4.00 in.
305′s are smaller,
but they have the same crankshaft stroke 3.48 in.
the FOR SURE way is to pull a head off and measure the cylinder diameter
look on the front of the motor and at the botom ther should me the numbers 305 or 350. can b realy hard to see.
