A 472 small block…um……yeah…..

EDIT: For the guys talking about the warhawk block, true but some of us assumed he meant a conventional Gen1 block. Either way if he’s on here asking about it he’s not going to do it and is just dreaming.

ur better off with a 454 block and boring it out to 20 thousands of an inch and go with solid rockers and cam puts out alot of heat but breathing right and a good cooling system you should get about 560 hp or so on premium gas

472ci is small? Uh huh… Why don’t you just get a Ford motor and be done with it? Buy a 302, and you will have fun. All those big blocks are, are heavy, and suck down a lot of gas. They aren’t a lot of fun in short bursts either… you gotta have a bit of a stretch to wind them up.

Jamie: Well, I’ll put it this way, if you say a 302 can’t take 400hp, then the inexplicably overrated Chevy 350 can’t take that much. People like Chevy motors because they are cheap to build, and when you do blow them (you will…), you can build another one for less than a 302 would cost to build. You won’t split a 302 block anywhere at 400hp, I would know, I did a build to around 400hp with one of my 289s, and the 302 was just an evolution of that. Maybe if you are talking a block that has seen some serious racing use, was involved in a high speed crash, and THEN, you built it.

The LSX Warhawk block from Bill Mitchell Hardcore Racing products is a small block and has been built to 472 cubic inches. TONS of power can be made with it. This is a new school block, not an older LT1 block. More independent info can be found on forums such as http://www.ls1tech.com

In fuel injected form, this engine can be tuned with HP Tuners for somewhat reasonable economy compared to the big block of similar displacement.

The new RHS LSX block can be built to over 500 CI and is also a small block. Capable of withstanding 2500 HP…it’s not your dad’s small block chevy.

The LSX platform is incredible!

Oh kaaaaaaaaaa.

For the benefit of those who already answered this question, a number of after market small-blocks are available with the clearance for a big enough stroke, and bore to get up to that ci number.

The lsx block will allow up to 483 ci according to gm performance. This would be the best way to build a GM performance motor, it gives you a small footprint, big cubes, and better design than previous small-blocks. 6 bolt mains, better heads, just an all round better motor. If you must have a “Small-block”, which is technically previous generations, then the aftermarket is the way.

By lumping all users of this site in, then jamie is as much of a retard as the rest of us, and therefore just as useless. I am a trained and experianced engine builder, and my choice to participate in this site is just a way of wasting time, and helping to point people in the right direction. He is correct in the fact that I will not design a motor all together for free, you will not learn all you need to know on this site to put a motor together, and i can’t build a motor over the internet. Also my participation oon this site may well bring me buisness by explaining why people should use a good builder. At the very least it will help my colleges. Asking what is possible is hardly asking for a blueprint, and is not giving away anything you can’t find in the occasional decent mag article. Whata douche.

Cadillacs had 472′s in late 60′s and early 70′s. I’m sure by some configuration you could get a 472. if your wanting HP try 454 or 400 much easier on the wallet

The way I see it is if you have to come on here and ask a bunch of retards ( sorry guys, real engine builders will not just give you the right info and there is allot more to it than just throwing parts at an engine!)how to build a engine then you don’t need it! Like the guy on here that says “get a ford 302″ HAHAHAHAHA those junk blocks won’t hold over 400 horses! We used to split those things down the cam galley on the dyno all day long! JUNK!!! Your going to lose allot of money doing it this way! Your best bet is to go to a local race or engine shop. You could just buy one from Jegs.com or Summit racing.com and have your money where it belongs!
