go with the crate. It will be easier and most probably cheaper in the end.
Depends on how much you are willing to spend. Crate engines are really nice, and they come with a warrenty. However a rebuild would cost less, but that is only if it doesn’t need any work.
YOU COULD GET A CRATE MOTOR WITH 300 HP THROUGH MOST CHEVY DEALERS FOR ABOUT THE SAME PRICE AS REBUILDING THE EXISTING ENGINE. YOU CAN GET MORE POWER THAT WAY AND THEY ARE BUILT NOW TO RUN ON REGULAR GRADE GAS. IF YOU REBUILD THE EXISTING ENGINE AND GET TO CRAZY WITH IT,YOU MAY HAVE TO RUN A MID GRADE OR PREMIUM FUEL. A CRATE MOTOR IS JUST ABOUT READY TO INSTAL WHEN YOU BUY IT.WAY QUICKER TO GET YOUR BEAST BACK ON THE STREET.THE CRATE WILL BE CHEAPER IN THE END.
you should def. rebuild. that way you can be sure everything bolts up properly in the end. you can get an entire rebuild kit for a 350 for about 150 dollars from Northern. this includes everything you need…pistons and cam and all that. also, crate motors are very expensive.
don’t forget if you want a # matching vehicle, REBUILD…if ya’ll don’t care price a rebuild, price a crate engine, if you want performance, look through Hot Rod mag at the Classifieds, U might find one cheaper there…..
