8

I have an 81 Chevrolet pickup with a 305 engine. I want to buy a new 350 block. Can i use my Intake manifold, distributor, water pump ect. from my 305 and put it in the 350 or would it be different? What all woud i have to change in this motor swap?

the water pump and distributor should be the same, but things like the heads are designed with smaller valves and ports for the smaller displacement 305. Also how old are the water pump and distributor are they in good enough condition to be worth buying new water pump gaskets and risk having an old water pump go out in a month from now.

It all depends on the year of the 350 but usually all parts are interchangable between a 305 and a 350. Even the heads, the only real difference is the bore. You shouldnt have to change much at all.

It should all fit but, you might want to change the two barrel carb from the 305 engine. We had one years ago and the fuel delivery was horrible, I suppose it depends on what you want to do with the truck. If you are looking for high performance, maybe try a Quadrajet four barrel, this would require you to use a different intake manifold, but it sure would perform well :-)
If you do decide to change the manifold make sure it has the same bolt pattern for alternator and accesories.
Have fun:-)))

from 1955 to 1979 all had drivers side oil dip stick.

from 1980 to 1986 they made motors in the 305 and 350s with oil dip sticks on the drivers side or the passengers side.

and 1987 on up there on the passengers side.

that’s the only real change other then whats in side, you can take every thing from the 305 and use it on the 350, water pump, intake, starter, distributor and so on (everything)

305- low-nickel block, 2-bolt mains, 3.5″ stroke, 3.75″ bore, 58cc chambers, smallish valves and highly restrictive ports.

350- high-nickel block, 2 or 4-bolt mains, 3.5″ stroke, 4″ bore, 76cc chambers, bigger valves and better ports.

many people have made the mistake of beefing up a worthless 305 only to find is is a inferior platform and is limited to about 330hp

if i was you i would find some 350 heads because the 305 heads gona bump your comp ratio up which is no bad if you got dish top pistons but bad for flat top. a 350 with f/t pistons with 64cc heads are right a 10:1 comp. that boarder line race/street. you can use Morten.com to research any part for Chevy engine from any year look it up

cylinder bore.Thats all.Everything from a 305 will bolt to a 350 including the intake.
